The event features illuminating lectures by world-leading scientists, inspiring the next generation. Held at the historic King's School, the conference fosters a spirit of inquiry, collaboration, and curiosity, providing a space for young minds to flourish. Each one brings a treasure trove of experience that they can't wait to share with all of you. Dr Amy Barker Oxford Biomedica Principal Scientist Dr Barker is a biologist who has worked on a variety of rare diseases and is developing gene therapies for cancer Dr Mark Basham The Rosalind Franklin Institute Science Director, Head of AI Dr Basham’s primary research contributions have focused on the removal of barriers between image processing techniques in different scientific domains. Dr Alexandre Paschoal The Rosalind Franklin Institute Group Leader, AI Dr. Paschoal's primary research lies in building cut-edge AI techniques to translate biological/life science data into solutions using bioinformatics expertise to guide decision-making. James Clarke Rothamsted Research Director of Communications and Engagement James Clarke has more than a decade of experience producing science radio programmes for the BBC, and has worked in a number of communication roles abroad. He has had a career long interest in popularising science for varied audiences across multiple media outlets and through high profile events. Vanessa Madu Imperial College London PhD Student Vanessa Madu is a PhD student on the EPSRC CDT in Modern Statistics and Statistical Machine Learning at Imperial College London and Oxford University. She is an "Oceanographically-enabled Mathematical Statistician" who is interested in statistical machine-learning methods for predicting ocean surface currents. Rewatch The Livestream: 2024 Poster Competition (Now Closed) Just like our last 10 years of conferences, students aged 12-20 will have the opportunity to submit their original research projects in poster form. All posters submitted will be printed in-house and go on display at our conference. There is no need to bring your poster with you if you are unable to! All those who submit are welcomed to book their free ticket using the event page above. Judges will be walking around looking at posters so it is in your best interest to be there to answer any questions or submit a video presentation of your poster to maximise your chances of a prize. We were founded in 2006 at The King's School, Canterbury, so that young people could conduct original research and have this published in a peer-reviewed journal. What started as an afternoon activity has grown into a thriving ecosystem of young scientists around the world sharing their own insights and passions from the world of science. The Young Scientists Journal has had over 1.5 million visits . We are an international peer-reviewed science journal, connecting students from over 50 countries. We have been the vehicle of choice for many in getting their work published. We are run by young people, for young people, and are registered by the UK Government's Charity Commission. Join the team Sign up OUR DEPARTMENTS The Young Scientists Journal is made up of several departments that work together to publish articles, share research, organise conferences and so much more. People that you meet in the YSJ become great friends and colleagues that last a lifetime and open numerous doors in the future. Editorial Articles are peer reviewed by the student editorial team, covering 11 different subjects. An academic advisor, with experience in the subject, will then validate its findings. Production Our production team publishes articles throughout the website. Production produces our annual print issue which is distributed nationally. Artists curate pieces for the Journal, whilst content creators write original blogs for the website. The podcast team interviews individuals globally. Our technology team evolves back-end technology to power our infrastructure. Marketing The Marketing team operates all of our social networks. They form original content, which connects with over 1000 people. The Newsletter distributes though-provoking material for our members. Outreach Our Outreach Team is busy setting up local hubs throughout the world. They setup our conference each year and fund raise for us. Witness the incredible work they do below. Human Resources Our HR department plays a crucial role in fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment. They handle recruitment, ensuring the journal attracts diverse talent, manage member relations, and support professional development. Additionally, HR facilitates effective communication and ensures adherence to ethical standards within our community. Artwork Our art department is pivotal for visually communicating complex concepts. Responsible for diagrams and journal covers, they blend artistic flair with scientific precision, creating compelling visuals that enhance understanding. Their role extends to maintaining a cohesive visual identity, ensuring the journal's aesthetic reflects scholarly excellence.
